As Dai reaches the latter stages of his career, he has begun to make a concerted effort to help and support younger athletes who are taking their first steps towards fulfilling their dreams of becoming the best in the world at their chosen sports.
“I have a wealth of experience, from balancing studies, work and training, to overcoming injuries and dealing with setbacks, to handling the nerves and emotions as you toe the line ready to compete. As an athlete I have experienced it all and wish to use my knowledge to help navigate others on their journey.
When I was younger I found it easier discussing issues with my fellow athletes and was always appreciative of advice from senior athletes who had been there and done it. With my 18 years of experience in elite sport, I am well positioned to listen to athletes concerns and help advise them on how to deal with their problems or where to go for support (something that young athletes are not always aware of). Even if athletes don’t have any major concerns, a regular check in is always helpful as it helps sharpen the focus and plan for any issues that may arise in the near future.”
One-to-one confidential zoom calls or phone calls (whichever they prefer) with the athlete on a regular basis. Calls would likely be around 40-60mins depending on the needs of the athlete.
